  • Ride Of The Vallauris

This season, in addition to OKA’s extensive and unique range of cushions, our three founders each had a pet project: to create their own capsule cushion collection. Annabel Astor designed ‘The Vallauris Collection’.

In South-Eastern France, nestled amongst the low coastal hills, lies Vallauris. Vallauris has been a pottery hub since the Roman times. The reason for its success? The very distinctive style that makes pieces from this location so very enticing.

Here, Annabel further explains the inspiration behind her cushions and why they were featured in her ‘La Dolce Vita’ look.

“I’ve always been a fan of the beautiful patterns that you find on ceramics from the area, so I designed a range of hand-made cushions with them in mind. The range focuses on delicate watercolour designs, in soft tones of teal, pink and ochre. Each design is printed on 100% linen, and draws inspiration from 1950s artists Charles Voltz and Robert Picault.”

“Decorated with stripes, lightning bolts and an ogee print, I wanted the expressive designs to echo the dominant colours used in the scheme. I was so pleased with how the cushions turned out that I had the patterns made into a wallpaper and a set of curtains.”
