  • Q&A With Georgie Coleridge Cole

This month Georgie Coleridge Cole, founder of fashion and lifestyle destination SheerLuxe.com, has chosen some of her favourite pieces from our collection. We sat down with her to discuss fashion, design and her previous dreams of being a prison warden.

Do you have a favourite room at home?

My bedroom. We recently redid and extended the top half of our house and I now have a dressing room and bathroom. My bedroom is pale grey with metallic accents and it’s very calming and peaceful at the end of a long day.

Have you got your eye on anything new for your house?

I recently bought the OKA faux shagreen console for my bedroom. There’s something about a console table in a bedroom that feels luxurious and grown up.

What are your favourite items from OKA?

Probably the sideboard that we use as a drinks cabinet; we bought it for our first house about 8 years ago.

How do you dress a room?

A home only feels like a home when it has enough accessories and soft furnishings.

Are there any similarities between how you would dress a room and a person?

Yes - you want a look in mind but one that’s not too matchy matchy.

When it comes to interiors, do you go for trendy or classic?

A bit of both. That balance is what OKA does so well. Too trendy doesn’t feel cosy but too classic doesn’t work that well in London.

What makes a house a home?

    A dog!

    What’s on your bookshelf?

On the whole not many books, but lots of home accessories. When it comes to accessories and prints I like repetition, so if I see something I really like I’ll often buy 2 or 3 and then line them up.

What’s the best advice you've ever been given?

It was from my mother, she said, “appreciate the importance of a kind man to make you happy”. When I met my husband at 19 I didn’t really appreciate that. Thankfully he stuck around…

What brings you the greatest joy?

Probably the fact I’m able to do a job that drives me at the same time as having a family. I know not all mothers are as fortunate.

    City or countryside?

Always the city. I can do a few days in the country but then I’m ready to come home again. I was born in London and the pace of it is ingrained in me. I’m not very good at slowing down.

What do you wish you had known when you started your career?

When I started SheerLuxe in 2007 I imagined I’d sell it in three years and count my fortune! I always say it’s probably a good thing I didn’t know what hard work I was in for.

What are the three things you can’t live without?

Diet Coke, the gym and Lychee Martinis.

Tell us something unexpected about yourself?

Age 16 I was in the army cadets; age 17 I thought about becoming a prison warden.

Do you have a signature dinner party dish?

I’m not a very enthusiastic cook. A chicken and chorizo tray bake is always pretty safe and tasty. And I’m good at arranging a salad.

What song do you dance to when no-one’s looking?

    Duran Duran’s ‘Girls on Film’.

What’s your favourite city in the world and why?

New York of course. But I wouldn’t live there now. I’d move to Asia tomorrow, given half the chance. I spent quite a bit of my childhood in Hong Kong and my one regret will always be that my husband and I didn’t live the expat life abroad.
