  • Q&A with Samantha Cameron

We sat down with Samantha Cameron to discuss her interiors style, her home and her fashion brand, Cefinn (cefinn.com).

    What style are your houses?

My London house is modern and minimal, whereas my cottage in Oxfordshire is cosy and eclectic – a mix of traditional pieces both bought and inherited, as well as plenty of OKA.

What room did you most enjoy decorating?

I adored decorating the sitting room in my house in Oxfordshire. It all started with a khaki/olive green OKA rug, then we built the whole scheme around it. We added heavy olive felt curtains, neutral linens and faded antique floral pieces. It all ties together so well because of the central rug.

What is your favourite interior style?

I like things to be quite minimal but bold, in both colour and texture.

As fashions change so regularly, how do you refresh your home?

Throws and cushions are such a quick and easy way to change your room.

What OKA furniture do you have in your home?

In our cottage in Oxfordshire, almost everything is OKA. We have the Rattan Log Baskets, beautiful blue china plates and bowls, the Upton Console Table and lots of fur throws – there are regular fights over who gets to have one when we are watching telly.

Tell us about your company, Cefinn.

It is named after my children’s initials. It is the go to day-to-night wear for the busy woman.

What is your favourite piece from Cefinn’s SS18 collection?

I love the sky blue Jennifer Dress: it looks like denim but is actually voile. It’s incredibly flattering, easy-to-wear and it makes a real impact. The perfect dress for when you’re spending your day in the office and then going straight to a drinks party.

What inspired you to enter into fashion?

I’ve always loved colour and fabrics, but it was the frustration of not being able to find modern, trend-led fashion that was appropriate for both work and evening, which really inspired me to create my own.

    How did your career begin?

I studied Fine Art and began designing for retail windows, interiors and packaging before becoming Creative Director at Smythson in my mid-twenties. Last year I launched Cefinn; we are about to celebrate our first birthday.

What is your inspiration when it comes to a new collection?

I’m often inspired by colour, or a new fabric that we’ve sourced. Every season we test new silhouettes, which is always exciting.
