  • Things to do this Bank Holiday

What will you do with your three-day weekend? With yet another bank holiday looming, we take a look at a few fun things you can do around the UK during this long weekend – after popping into OKA of course...

If you pay a visit to the beautiful Valley Gardens in Harrogate, you’ll be able to view an exhibition of paintings by a group called The White Rose Artists. Their ‘Art in the Gardens’ exhibition has been running every summer for 40 years and offers a chance to view some beautiful works of art in wonderful garden surroundings. The perfect outdoor activity if the weather is glorious, and if not, they will be returning to the gardens over selected weekends throughout June, July and August.

Venture a little bit further north to Edinburgh to hear the Edinburgh Light Orchestra. The evening will feature favourite pieces of music from stage, screen and the world of ‘light music’. It promises to be a magical evening by Edinburgh’s premier concert orchestra.

If you love trying new food then head over to Cambridge to catch the city’s food and drink festival. Just half an hour’s drive from our Saffron Walden showroom, Eat Cambridge is a chance for local independent food producers to showcase their food and drink to fellow food fans. For some reason, we’re suddenly feeling really peckish...

If the weather is sunny, why not take a trip to Broadway and stroll round one of the numerous gardens open to the public as part of the National Gardens Scheme? Our top choices would be the gardens on the banks of the River Avon below Warwick castle and a Japanese-style cottage garden. It’s not just Broadway taking part in this event; towns all over England and Wales with private gardens are opening them up to visitors. Find out more on the NGS website.

Should you happen to be near to our Froxfield shop, the Highclere Game and Country Fair is taking place in the grounds of Highclere Castle - now more famously known as the setting for ITV’s Downton Abbey. There will also be hundreds of stalls offering everything from clothing for country pursuits to artisan foods to accessories for your pet.
