Admiring their unique style and great eye for colour, we asked Salvesen Graham for their perfect Christmas table.
Salvesen Graham is an award-winning luxury interior design practice, founded in 2013 by leading designers, Nicole Salvesen and Mary Graham. Based in South-West London, the dynamic duo work on both private and commercial projects all over the world and create classic interiors with a modern twist, merging the old with the new and layering pieces that fuse together different styles and textures.
With Christmas a matter of weeks away, we were eager to find out more about the festive dining room they designed.
OKA has a varied collection of faux flowers that work throughout the year, meaning you can really use them to bring the seasons into your home. The berries are ideal for Christmas as they look authentic, so we used a variety of types throughout the room to add colour, texture and height.
Dried oranges are great for infusing a space with a classic Christmas scent and veer away from the traditional reds of Christmas. We repeated this orange colour in the velvet ribbons used, to give the room a warm and opulent feel; they also work well with the wonderful pink velvet of the chairs.
Lastly, we love these classic leopard candle holders and we couldn’t help but accessorise them too for some seasonal warmth!
It’s all in the details. We love to create personalised place settings for every occasion. These can be created from beautiful cards and we like to write names on leaves; holly works particularly well for Christmas. Gifts on the table create a fun talking point for your guests and can be more meaningful and lasting than traditional crackers.
Don’t forget to add lots of candles, preferably at different heights. Inevitably, this time of year will be darker, so sparkling and twinkling light is a wonderful way to lift the spirits.
It’s fun to mix your tableware; don’t feel limited to one colour or style. We enjoyed using the Fig Leaf Side Plates with the Isphahan China and Ivory Cutlery. All provided a variety of patterns, colours and shapes.
Extendable tables are invaluable throughout the year, but especially at Christmas as you never know when an extra guest might appear! The Stafford Velvet Chair adds a pop of colour and warmth, which is something that Salvesen Graham is renowned for. The Camille Console Table has an interesting design and pieces like this are incredibly useful in a dining room because they provide an extra surface to decorate for a special occasion and - more importantly - to lay out food, drinks and anything else that you will need to host a memorable occasion, such as coffee cups for the end of an evening. A really good addition to a room is a multi-coloured rug that lets you introduce lots of seasonal shades.
More is more when it comes to Christmas. Do bear in mind that you need to leave room for placing bottles and any food you want to have on the table, but beyond this, a bountiful and full table will seem generous and abundant. All that remains is to surround yourself with your family! For us, this is what Christmas is all about and - of course - food, lots of delicious food!
