  • 6 Tips To Help You Sleep

Is there anything worse than lying in bed tossing and turning? Watching the hours tick by and knowing it isn’t long before your alarm will go off and you will have to start your day. As the morning gets closer, the fear sets in, will you ever sleep again? If you ever feel like this, you are not alone, according to the London Sleep Centre, almost 30 to 40 percent of adults suffer from some level of insomnia within any given year. But we are here to help, follow these tips and make your bedroom the sleeping sanctuary that you need.

    1. Sleep Better By Banning Screens From The Bedroom

It’s important to make your bedroom as comfortable and homely as possible, in order to get a good night’s rest. Screens and gadgets should be stored away when it’s time for bed, replaced with a mug of camomile tea and a good read. To help you get your forty winks, here’s everything needed for a stylish and tranquil boudoir.

    2. Beautiful Bedding To Help You Sleep

There’s little worse than itchy, uncomfortable bedding. Linen bedding, favoured by 5-star hotels, is one of the most luxurious fabrics to sleep in as it’s light, breathable and sumptuously soft - perfect for hot, balmy summer nights and those cold winter nights, as it has high air permeability and heat conductivity properties. In the winter months a quilt or throw is essential for warmth and they also look great.

    3. Declutter Your Surroundings

There’s some truth behind the saying ‘tidy room, tidy mind’. A poor night’s sleep can often be contributed to by a messy bedroom. Make your bed every morning and keep your space clutter-free by ensuring that there’s plenty of storage in the room and by dedicating a bit of time each week to tidying and sorting out your bedroom.

    4. Light There

It’s good to get into the habit of relaxing in bed an hour or so before bedtime - either by reading, meditating or listening to a podcast- preferably with a hot (non-caffeinated drink) in hand. To help you unwind, and eventually drift off in style, a couple of bedside lamps are an absolute must-have. Bedside lighting should provide down light to allow reading and relaxation, but not up light so that the room remains dark. You should be able to reach your table lamps (or wall lamps – if you don’t have any room for a bedside table) from your bed so that you don’t have to get out of bed and switch them off when you’re about to fall asleep.

    5. Time For Bed

The most important element of any bedroom is, of course, the bed. If you find yourself tossing and turning during the night (rather like the tired princess from ‘The Princess And The Pea’), perhaps it’s time for a new one. It will be the most prominent piece of furniture in the room, so choose one that fits the space and reflects your personal style. We offer two different kinds of divan bed. Our standard Divan Bed offers incredible comfort and support and is finished in the finest quality cotton ticking, sourced from traditional cotton mills. Choose between three types of standard divan base: no storage, with drawers and with lift up storage (ideal if you’re decorating a smaller bedroom that’s short on space). Our deluxe divan bed is made from high quality, natural and breathable fibres and is upholstered in a luxurious white damask fabric with a hand-stitched border.

    6. Sleep Well With These Bedroom Essentials

Often, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. These accessories will help you relax and are compact enough to be kept in a bedside table. An eye-mask is ideal if your room is too light, along with earplugs (essential if you sleep next to a snorer). If you find it difficult to get your mind to slow down, then try a few drops of lavender oil on a handkerchief and smell it as you go to sleep (warning: it might stain). There are also special pillow sprays that really help if you are struggling to get to sleep, we love ‘Sleep Plus’ by ‘This Works’. Last but not least, you’re never too old for a teddy, especially one as cuddly as this Victorian-inspired bear.
