A Tribute To Oscar De La Renta
A Tribute To Oscar De La Renta

“Oscar de la Renta was incredibly gifted, multi-talented and extraordinarily creative. Remaining at the top of the fashion world for over five decades, he was famous for dressing women the world over. I was lucky to count him as a friend and spent many happy February weeks at his beautiful home in the Dominican Republic. I have put together a scheme based on his house, as a tribute to Oscar and in celebration of his matchless style.” – Annabel Astor

Dining Room

“Oscar always adored his tropical garden - a series of hedged rooms and paths, filled with exotic plants, rough-barked tree trunks supporting growing orchids, and water gently splashing from fountains. He would often entertain outside and he had this talent for merging indoors with outdoors in a very natural way.”

Sitting Room

“Oscar had this rare ability to pull together a room from an assortment of items he’d collected over the years (nothing particularly matched), but when he combined them it created a calm, comfortable and stylish interior. Space was important to him and the odd large piece of furniture anchored or divided a room.”

Master Bedroom

“A typical bedroom in Oscar’s house was random - from the fabric, to the mixed bedside tables and lamps. Books were everywhere, piled up on groaning tables, bookshelves and creeping out from under chairs. Beds were stacked with banks of the softest pillows. Dog beds were under tables or cabinets in every room.”

Guest Bedroom

“When Oscar used colour in his home, it was always in quite an intense way. Oscar had the most amazing talent for creating homes, they were always so glamorous but in the most understated way. Guests always felt at home and relaxed when staying with him.”

Pool House

“Everywhere outside - around the pool and on the verandas - there were chaise longues, loungers and deep chairs, with stools all covered with comfy throws and soft cushions. The pool house was place for relaxation: a backdrop of whitewashed walls, natural linen and soft ‘Weathered’ Acacia pieces, with accents of blue echoing the pool and sky beyond.”
