Pale Smoke Grey takes its name from techniques adopted in the early days of paint making. Traditionally, black pigments were made by burning wood and collecting the carbon and ash residue. Smoke is an amalgamation of white, carbon black and a touch of earth pigment, which has a softening effect. Environmentally-friendly paint made from plants

Description & Details

Smoke was commonly used to create black pigments in the very earliest days of paint making. Burning something and collecting the carbon deposit enabled the making of a range of blacks and the process often begot the name; Lamp Black, Pitch Black, Black Smoke. Our colour is as simple as it sounds – a pale grey based on carbon black with white and our usual touch of earth pigment to soften it to the eye.
