Azurite pigment is made by grinding, washing and drying natural copper minerals. This methodical process creates a fine blue powder which has been added to paint since the Egyptian era. It featured prominently in art during the middle ages as it produces both light and dark shades; it turns deep blue if ground coarsely and mid blue when pressure is applied. Azurite was used in classical paintings to colour everything from landscapes to robes worn by religious icons. Used in wall paint today, it’s especially good at uniting natural materials. Environmentally-friendly paint made from plants
