Great design is timeless, as proven by Nancy Lancaster’s continued influence on present day interior design. A bold pioneer of the English Country House style, she dispensed with the rigid grandeur of the Victorian age through her clever use of colour, lightness of touch and refusal to be constrained by tradition. Inspired by her unique style, we’ve designed a 21st century country house for relaxed and easy entertaining.
Nancy Lancaster’s aesthetic was a whimsical mix of grand, bold and dilapidated, all held together in a witty and comfortable way. The living room of this country house is a pared-back version of her inimitable style, with smaller scale sofas, a bare floor and a neutral colour palette (bar splashes of colour on lamps, flowers and console tables) taking centre stage in a room designed for endless chatter. Detailed embroidery on cushions alongside beautifully carved and curvaceous pieces help to add a feminine touch.
