Park Life

A park-side London home with high ceilings, large windows and wooden floors demands disciplined and restrained décor. The key is to focus each room around a few simple and beautiful pieces to allow the striking structure of the building come to the fore, creating a calm and tranquil home. In a house like this, you don’t need lots of colour; instead, the natural light and neutral colour scheme work together to achieve an effortlessly modern and relaxed look.

Kitchen

Park Life - Kitchen

The understated, modern, pared-back kitchen is at the heart of this home. High ceilings and wooden floors expose the room, further accentuated by natural light and a neutral colour scheme, but the addition of plenty of seating around the table and kitchen island, and a blend of various wooden finishes on furniture and accessories makes it warm and welcoming.

Dining

At first, the dining room appears traditional but has been stripped back for a modern twist. Stonewashed linen dining chairs surrounding a pale wood oval dining table both create a relaxed and intimate space away from the bustle of the kitchen for quiet dining, whilst an extravagant wooden chandelier helps centre the room. Elegant pottery with a burst of greenery complements the neutral colour scheme.

Hallway

Park Life - Hallway

The hallway might be a part of the home we just pass by but there is no reason why it cannot be as characteristic as other interior spaces. This hallway is transformed into a lively space with a rustic wooden and stainless steel coffee table, a gallery of framed maps, a cushion lined upholstered bench and a wooden floor lamp - the perfect place to read.

Sitting Room

Park Life - Sitting Room

Rugs and curtains were deliberately excluded from the sitting room, so as not to detract from the house’s features and to give the room space to breathe. The elegant neutral backdrop is achieved using a combination of grey textiles, neutral upholstery and rustic wooden table, whilst mirrored pieces reflect the natural light pouring in through the vast windows to create a bright yet tranquil sitting room.

Master Bedroom

High ceilings and wooden floors in a bedroom can sometimes feel sparse, so the décor needs to be restrained yet cosy. Introducing a large rug, long curtains and draping velvet over a side table adds softness, whilst small splashes of rich colour and low-level lighting adds warmth.
