FEELS LIKE HOME

For Sophie, a move from the UK to Jersey meant a tight schedule and a lot of unknowns – but our Interior Design Service offered her the support to make her house feel like a home.

“We were embarking on an international move to Jersey and feeling very overwhelmed at the prospect of furnishing the new house so that it felt like home on day one,” explains Sophie, a first-time client of our Interior Design Service, which helps our customers to create spaces that feel uniquely theirs. “I thought, oh my gosh, I need some help here! Antoni, our dedicated senior interior designer, was great at getting to know our style during an initial walk around the Chelsea store, and turned around a scheme in a very short space of time with just the photos and floorplan to work with. He was incredible and got us down to a tee – he chose things that I wouldn’t have been brave enough to go for.”

Having walked into the store in December of 2024 and completed the project in March the following year, it took just four months from initial concepts to installation day. Antoni explains: “I got a feel for the pieces and styles Sophie preferred within our different collections and discussed options to narrow them down. By the end of the initial complimentary consultation, Sophie was reassured that OKA was the right brand for furnishing her new home in Jersey, and that we were the service to offer support and expertise every step of the way.”

The Jersey house was a relatively new build with clean lines and a contemporary feel that provided a blank canvas for creativity. Flooded with plenty of natural light, it’s tucked away in a residential part of the island but has incredible views that make it feel like it’s surrounded by nature. “Although the house is modern, Sophie has a naturally warm style, so it was clear from the beginning that there was scope to add our signature aesthetic for layering on tactility, colour and interest,” explains Antoni. “Some of our iconic designs – pieces that OKA has become known for – have also found a home in different parts of the house.”

Included in Sophie’s full-house and large-scale brief was the vast open-plan kitchen and dining room – furnished with suitably large pieces such as our made-to-order Beale and Egerton sofas as well as the Stafford dining chairs upholstered with Bhukara Tabac fabric – plus the spacious living room and snug. The result is a comfortable and flexible space for all seasons and occasions. In the bedrooms, a combination of classic and contemporary pieces make for inviting and eclectic schemes, from the Hester four-poster bed in the principal suite to the upholstered Sheki headboard in the guest room.

Because of the location, Antoni worked on the project remotely to begin with, Sophie taking him on a video tour and sharing measurements digitally. From there, detailed layouts were drawn up and visual concepts developed so Sophie could envisage the scheme of each room, from the larger pieces of furniture to the little touches, while being able to see the common thread running throughout and connecting the individual spaces.

“The only iteration of the design was adding more pieces to the order,” Sophie laughs. “Because we were working to a very tight timings, Antoni was clever in only using designs that were already in stock to bring everything together as quickly as possible, along with a handful of bespoke Tailored by OKA pieces.”

After the quick sign-off, the OKA team was on-hand to organise logistics, from handling the customs forms required for sending furniture to an island, managing deliveries and updating Sophie with regular and timely communication. “The communication was brilliant,” she says. Because of the scale of the project, Antoni flew to Jersey during installation so he could lend his expert eye and steer the placement of furniture and accessories. Sophie explains: “He added all the finishing touches that tied it all together,” Sophie says. “I’m extremely happy with how the scheme was designed so quickly and easily, and absolutely love our new home! We’re already looking forward to working with OKA again on the remaining rooms.”

From the contemporary open-plan kitchen and dining room to the individual bedrooms, every space feels warm, eclectic, well-travelled and, most importantly, lived-in. Rather cleverly, the new has somehow been made older by layering characterful pieces that each tell a story while still allowing the spectacular views from the windows to shine.
