The Story of Sheki

Celebrating 25 years since it was first created by skilled artisans in India, the Sheki pattern has become synonymous with OKA and our signature travelled, layered style.

It’s inspired by a rug that our Co-Founder and Creative Director Sue Jones found in an antiques market all those years ago and where she returned to recently when she travelled back to meet with our talented makers.

Characterised by English roses and abstract flowers in a warming olive, burgundy and cream colourway, the motif is hand-screen printed than hand-embroidered for a raised texture that adds interest and tactility to the folksy design.

Sue Jones, Co-Founder and Creative Director

We first imagined the design on our very own rug – a timeless floor covering that looks as good beneath a dining table as it does anchoring a living space – and have since featured it on a wide range of pieces as the motif has grown in popularity.

Make a statement by mixing or matching the armchair and sofa. Add personality to otherwise plain seating with a throw or scattering of cushions. Give your bed decorative accents in the headboard and ottoman. Or proudly display a collection of plates, mugs and bowls in a cabinet.

With plenty of creative discussions enjoyed between Sue and our artisans in India, amid the exciting sights and sounds of the markets, there’s plenty more planned for Sheki this year and beyond. Watch this space to add to your collection of beautifully-embroidered, delicately made pieces. Sheki is the epitome of quality and everything we stand for.
