The barley-twist detail so popular in 17th-century furniture resurfaces in a fresh new design - that of the Solomon Coffee Table. A style of spiralling legs or beaded trim, barley twist takes its name from the hard sweets of the time, which in turn were said to take their shape from the helix-shaped columns used as structural pillars in Solomon's Temple, built around 600 BC. Our design team has given this antique detail a welcome update by enlarging it to form curvaceous, chunky table legs from solid oak, which lend a playful, sculptural touch to the natural-coloured table. These smooth curves are carried through to the table's double bullnose edge detail and concave ends.
