The Stories Behind Our Designs

“I love spring and summer. They’re seasons of great promise, and we are delighted to be introducing yet more exciting pieces into the collection,” Sue Jones, our Co-Founder and Creative Director, said when she spoke to us about the inspiration behind and finishing touches to our Spring Collection. We’re sharing a closer look at the stories behind the design of our newest pieces; from the earliest sketches to the subtle finishing touches, and even the stories behind their names, they’re all sprinkled with Sue’s fascinating insights and signature pearls of wisdom. Read on to find out about a few of our favourites.

Verdandi Garden Day Bed

Our Verdandi Garden Day Bed is an elegant extension of our popular Verdandi garden furniture range. Designed with generous proportions and adjustable blinds in our iconic Areca print, it blends comfort and practicality with a playful touch. Sue explains, “I wanted to create a garden piece that works beautifully in a variety of outdoor settings – something that feels as inviting in a city terrace as it does in a country garden”.

Artichaut Dining Table

The Artichaut Dining Table builds on our passion for seamless indoor/outdoor living, pairing thoughtful practicality with bold design. Named after the French word for artichoke, it’s a statement piece in both form and craft. Sue says, “The challenge was to create a table that feels substantial and striking but is simple enough to use every day.”

Belsay Garden Dining Set

The Belsay Garden Dining Set draws inspiration from the historic gardens of Belsay in Northumberland, translating understated elegance into a modern, outdoor context. Its low-level proportions and softly aged sandstone finish make it both comfortable and timeless. “Belsay is designed to complement the space around it rather than dominate it – it feels natural wherever you place it” reflects Sue.

Grannus Fire Pit

Innovation is at the heart of the Grannus Fire Pit, a first for OKA. “I’m proud to be introducing this piece as it really reflects our commitment to pushing boundaries in outdoor design”, says Sue. Combining a powder-coated iron bowl with a unique weathered granite surface, the fire pit balances artistry with practicality.

Haydock Table Lamp

Often viewed as symbols of strength, success and good fortune, horse influences have been at the heart of many bestselling collections at OKA. We’re excited to build on this range with our Haydock Table Lamp, named after the world-class racecourse. Sue comments, “I love that each piece carries a subtle sense of motion – it feels alive in a room, almost like it has its own story to tell.”

Fenoglio Dinnerware Range

You may be familiar with our ceramic collection, but the Fenoglio Dinnerware Range is a standout we’re delighted to introduce. Handmade by skilled artisans in a village just outside Florence, each piece is crafted from robust Tuscan stoneware and finished with hand-dipped glazes. “This set is as beautiful as it is practical”, explains Sue, “each piece carries the subtle marks of the maker, ensuring every plate and bowl is uniquely charming”.

Jade Valley Candle

"Fragrance has the power to completely change how a space feels”, says Sue. “Even a subtle scent can bring a sense of calm and freshness, almost like introducing a new piece of art into a room.” Our Jade Valley candle blends notes of wild orchid, jasmine and patchouli, evoking tranquil gardens – a reflection of jade’s timeless elegance and harmony with nature.
