When the British summer surprises us with scorching sunny days and heatwaves, seek shelter underneath a large, shady garden parasol. This practical piece takes its name from Jonas Hanway, the first man to popularise umbrellas in England - which were, in fact, originally called Hanways. And, if it happens to be raining, this will also provide shelter for that purpose. Made in Italy, this updated Hanway Parasol is a slightly different shape and size to our plain versions, featuring our Areca palm pattern on the underside - printed in the UK - for those sitting beneath it to admire. It has four height settings that can be altered with a pulley system.

The Areca Print

Our Areca print celebrates the palm’s history – popular in the Victorian era for its association with knowledge and sophistication – with elegant fronds stacked up to form our timeless pattern. The soft, leafy motif lends a natural touch with a hint of symmetrical formality.

A Real Page-Turner

We started as a mail-order interiors company with three women bringing truly unique designs from the East to interiors-lovers in the West. Lady Annabel Astor, a serial entrepreneur, invited two friends along on a sourcing trip: Sue Jones, whose decorating pedigree includes time at Jasper Conran and Colefax and Fowler, and Lucinda Waterhouse, a skilled horticulturist.
