  • What is custom-made furniture?

    Custom-made furniture is crafted exclusively to your specifications, rather than beingready-made. The items in our Tailored by OKA collection are designed by you, meaning that you pick the style, size, material, colour and leg finish, before we hand the project over to our artisans who begin work on building your piece. In contrast, ready-made furniture has already been crafted to a specific design. 

  • Why should I choose custom-made furniture over ready-made options?

    It is entirely up to you whether you would like a ready-made or custom-made piece of furniture. One benefit of ready-made furniture is that it is already built, so it is ready to go and can arrive in your home more quickly. You also don’t need to consider all the different elements. However, the benefit of customised furniture is that you can choose every element, from style to size, colour, fabric and legs. This means that you can design the piece around your tastes and your interior style so that it is personal to you and your home. 

  • How do I start the process of getting custom-made furniture?

  • How long does it take to have custom-made furniture created?

    The lead time for our custom-made furniture will vary depending on your requests. Since our custom-made seating is made in the UK by carefully chosen British family-run businesses, we estimate a lead time of 12-14 weeks, but our team will give you a more accurate timeline when you place your order. We also have certain styles available for Quick Ship, which have a lead time of 6 weeks. A couple of weeks before your personalised piece is ready, our Customer Service team will contact you to arrange delivery.

  • Is the 12—14 weeks estimated lead time for custom-made furniture manufacture realistic?

    With all of our Tailored by OKA pieces, we aim to manufacture them as quickly as possible with a focus on attention to quality. We have been very successful in meeting the estimated timeframe and in some cases improving on the date given. However, in some cases, due to the nature of the pieces, it may take a little longer than the anticipatedtimeframe to ensure that the specification is met. 

  • Can I choose the materials used in custom-made furniture?

    You can choose the upholstery material of your custom-made furniture from our wide selection of linens, leathers, velvets, wools and fabric blends. The frames of our Tailored by OKA collection are crafted from sustainably sourced European beech and birch hardwood, while the legs are crafted from sustainably sourced oak and beech, and you can choose from Ebony or Greyed Oak finishes.

  • Can I request specific dimensions for my custom-made furniture?

    Our custom-made furniture comes in a wide array of specified shapes, from Dining Chairs, Bar Stools, Benches, Armchairs and Loveseats to 2-Seater, 3-Seater, Large and Extra Large Sofas. We also offer Square and Rectangular Footstools. However, if the size you requireisn’t available, this can be accommodated by the manufacturers in the majority of cases, so long as it does not compromise on the structure of the piece. This has to be communicated at the point of sale and confirmed after payment has been taken. For more information, please contact our Customer Service team.

  • How does shipping work with custom-made furniture?

    A couple of weeks before your piece is ready, our Customer Service team will contact you to arrange delivery at a time that suits you. The item will be unpacked and installed in your room of choice, with all packaging removed. Before you make your purchase, please speak to our team about property access, measurements and any other details. We will require you to share this information and make any necessary preparations to ensure delivery is successful. If we are unable to deliver your item due to undisclosed information or a change in situation, we will refer to our cancellation Terms and Conditions, unless adjustments are made to make completion possible.

  • Will my order be the same as the sample pieces in the store?

    Our showroom sample sofas will have had lots of use as customers test out the feel and comfort of their cushions. When your new sofa arrives, the cushions will be very well filled and so much firmer. They will then take 3-6 months to “bed in”, so if you are looking for a softer feel, we encourage you to sit as often as you can to speed up the process. The fabric also plays a huge part in the feel of your seating as some fabric, such as linen, has more give and will allow the filling to move around more than others, such as velvet, that will retain more bounce. Our store staff will be happy to advise you on this topic.

  • How do I take care of custom-made furniture?

  • Will I be updated on the progress of my order?

    Updates or changes can be requested within 48 working hours of placing your order, by emailing [email protected] or, if the original order was placed in one of our 13 showrooms, you can directly contact the storeto request an update. Our team’s focus will be on providing you with updates when the piece is close to completion, in preparation for the schedule of delivery.

  • If I change my mind about my item when it arrives, what should I do?

    For Made-to-Order items, our usual cancellation and returns policy does not apply. On the rare occasion when your custom-made piece does not meet your expectations, you may return it if you agree to a 50% cancellation fee.

  • Why do I have more than one delivery, where are my other items?

    We always try to deliver whole orders but sometimes this isn’tfeasible. If you have ordered a combination of both standard and heavy items, they will be delivered by different couriers. It may also be a result of one or more of your items currently being out of stock, which will have been highlighted at the time of ordering.Our custom-made furniture is crafted by multiple manufacturers, so pieces may not be ready at the same time and delivered together. If you would like themto arrive together, this should be arranged at the point of sale or with our Customer Service team. Please note, this may increase the lead time.Our Made-to-Order pieces are handled by Domestic Distributions, and therefore will be shipped separately to your ready-made item orders. If you require further information about your delivery, please contact our Customer Service team.

  • How do I cancel my order?

    You can cancel your order at any time before it has been despatched from our warehouse. Please contact our Customer Service team if you would like to cancel an existing order.As Tailored by OKA products are made to order, after you've placed your order, you have 48 hours to contact us to make alterations or cancel your order. After this, we'll only be able to offer a 50% refund for any cancellations. 

  • Can I add to/amend my order?

    The order cannot be amended if the 48-hour cooling period has passed and manufacture has begun or, ifyou have already received a despatch email or if it has already been processed by the warehouse.
