  • Buying Guide For Armchairs

Armchairs are the ultimate sitting room decadence; they are the cushioned culmination of comfort and style. Perfect for curling up with a book or as extra seating when entertaining, they can squeeze into cosy corners just as well as they can become a feature in larger schemes. There are so many different styles to consider, but with our help you’re bound to find just the right addition to your home.

    Low Back Armchair

    Burford Armchair

Low back armchairs are an excellent option for rooms with a modern scheme as they fit in beautifully with this particular style of decoration. They’re also a clever option for rooms with low ceilings or apartments in the eaves, because of their smaller proportions they can give a room the sense of space and height.

This hand-made low leather armchair reads like a classic French-style design. The back, arms and seat are upholstered in a rich, aged tobacco leather, whereas the outer sides and back are flanked with a hessian-like linen fabric. Leather armrests, a foam-filled back and seat, sprung base, and a plump, foam and feather filled squab cushion make our Burford incredibly comfortable; subtle carved detailing elevates the solid 'burnt' oak frame of this imposing piece. To top it all off, it’s finished with antique brass studs.

    High Back Armchair

    Launceston Linen Chair

A high back armchair is a classic addition to any scheme. They look regal and elegant wherever they are placed and are therefore particularly suited to larger rooms in order to create a well-proportioned design. Place two next to each other with a table lamp on either side to give a sense of balance and structure.

Hand-made from solid oak with gently curved arms and a brass studded border, our Launceston Armchair has all the hallmarks of a classic armchair, but the square tapered legs and 100% natural linen upholstery - combined with the open frame and curvaceous silhouette - make it much more modern. Use in pairs either side of window or fireplace or as an occasional chair in a bedroom.

    Winged Armchair

If you’re looking for the perfect place to curl up with a good book, look no further than one of our winged armchair designs. They are wonderfully cosy and need very little adornment (a throw slung over the back and a side table for your hot coffee should do it) to make them look extremely inviting.

A modern take on the traditional wing chair, the Woodroffe Wing Chair is upholstered in a pale natural linen and viscose blend, with polished chrome stud detailing around the edges. Dark wooden legs and struts contrast beautifully with the lightly coloured fabric for a contemporary monochrome effect. The wing chair was designed to protect the upper body from drafts, so use to its full potential and position in pairs either side of a window.

    Patterned Armchair

I know what you’re thinking and no, we’re not talking about tartan. Our patterned armchair designs come in a variety of styles and colours to make finding the perfect match for your space even easier. Whether modern or traditional in shape, a patterned armchair brings a splash of colour and vivacity to a space and can therefore uplift the appearance of an entire room, which is perfect if you want to update a space without redecorating.

This charming low-sitting armchair is upholstered in a thick cotton fabric, decorated with small red flowers, which have been hand-block printed directly on to the hardy ‘rug like’ material. The painterly detailing and monochrome tassels add a tribal edge, whilst neat brass stud spacing smartens the design. A tall back, high armrests and a thick foam seat cushion ensures that our Silvassa isn’t just for show; dark mango wood legs on brass castors contrast beautifully with the pale fabric.

    Modern Armchair

Modern armchairs don’t necessarily need to mean shapeless or brightly-coloured. We got a little more creative with our idea of a modern armchair and instead, looked closely at textures and materials in order to make something that would be a focal point in a room without looking as if it were shot straight out of the sixties…

East meets west in this deliciously soft goat hair chair. Based on a classic Chinese design and expertly crafted by hand, the striking curved oak wood frame has been stained black, then updated for modern living by adding an incredibly comfortable padded seat upholstered in 100% goat hair. These quirky armchairs can be used en masse around a dining table (we like to alternate between the two natural colours) or used solo with a desk or dressing table.

Once you’ve found your dream armchair, don’t forget to accessorise it with one of our sumptuous cushions – here’s a guide to find the perfect pad.
