La La Living

When Sue Jones designed a sprawling Californian home in the heart of the Hollywood hills, she knew from the outset that she wanted to incorporate the relaxed Californian vibe that the region is famous for. The house is spacious, with large rooms and high ceilings, so Sue added just enough furniture and accessories to find a balance between sparse and cluttered, making it look inviting and homely. The result is a show-stopping home that brims with earthy tones, splashes of vibrant colour and spaces you simply don’t want to leave.

Sitting Room

La La Living - Sitting Room

After a long day hiking in the surrounding hills, this sitting room is the perfect oasis to return to. The foundation of Sue’s design was the walls which were painted to create a plastered effect, adding texture and depth as well as making the rooms feel cooler during the scorching Californian summers. Pops of colour were carefully chosen in complementing tones to make the scheme feel welcoming.

Dining Room

The dining room was designed around the ceiling hanging frame, which Sue decorated with elegant Verdigris jugs and lanterns in multiple sets to create a sense of balance. The kitchen is smart and sophisticated without being brutally modern and the natural touches, such as woven-detailing on the bar stools, give it a homely and inviting feel.

Master Bedroom

La La Living - Master Bedroom

The first thing you notice when you walk into the master bedroom is the palm leaf-inspired headboard. It is a show-stopping piece which is central to everything else in the room. Sue hung the curtains around it from the ceiling instead of the bed in order to create drama, keeping the rest of the room simple and calm with a soothing palette of colours.

Home Office

La La Living - Home Office

If you have the space, every home can benefit from two seating areas and this sophisticated and multi-functional space shows why. A room that expertly combines the styles of an office, a snug and a library, Sue wanted this room to reflect modern living in which people use their homes for work and relaxation all at once.

Bathroom

In keeping with the rest of the house, relaxation is key here, which is reflected through the use of calming neutral tones and natural textures, as well as the incredibly inviting, huge bath. Creating a bathroom which embodied both form and function was particularly important to Sue; by using matching mirrors, storage and sinks, the space is beautifully symmetrical whilst very practical.
